ENGAGE
Engage The World Through Service
Richmond is a beautiful place to live. The river. . . hills. . .parks. . . architecture. . . restaurants. . .festivals. . .farmer's markets. . . they all make our city easy to love. But Richmond has its share of troubles. Crime, education, taxes, racial tension. . . all things that aren’t so easy to love.
We want to see Richmond break the ties that hold it down. We're rolling up our sleeves to join in the struggle against poverty, racism, and crime -- and to partner with our local schools to help them flourish.
We believe that for a city to be great, its citizens have to love it beyond reason. Our goal is to serve Richmond and love her in spite of her flaws.
Writer G.K. Chesterton in his classic book, “Orthodoxy†put it this way: “Men did not love Rome because she was great. She was great because they had loved her.â€
It’s time to engage this city and the world by serving.
It’s time for people to love Richmond as if she were Rome.
It’s time for Love Beyond Reason.
the world through service
It all began in August 2008. We partnered with a Richmond City school and delivered school supplies for students. Then we went door to door in the Fan and collected 2,000 lbs of food for the Central Virginia Food Bank.
From that humble beginning, Area 10 has continued to make an impact in Richmond and beyond through serving and meeting the needs of our neighbors.
Since August 2008, Area 10 folks have given over 2,000 volunteer hours helping local organizations and schools and have raised over $15,000 to help a village in Vietnam get clean drinking water and a rural school in Haiti get proper sanitation.
And twice a year we cancel our Sunday worship service to go into our community to serve. We called it Rise Richmond. Teams clean up Carytown, work at Fox and Cary Elementary Schools, prepare meals for Stop Hunger Now and help at a downtown ministry called Hilltop Promises.
And we won't stop there. . .
Mission Richmond emerged from Area 10 Faith Community as a ministry for loving the city of Richmond by partnering with non-profit organizations, schools, businesses and churches.
We understand that the nature of non-profit service to people is challenging. We assess local non-profits' needs (repairs, building upkeep, single-project fundraising, etc.) and connect them with the people and organizations that can help to meet those needs. This allows non-profits to better focus on their mission to serve our city.

Area 10 Global
Area 10 reaches out to meet the needs of our local and global communities. Every year we take an Advent Offering to help our brothers and sisters around the globe. Past offerings have provided clean water to a school in Vietnam and sanitation facilities to a school in Haiti. We have also developed relationships in these communities through mission teams that we hope, over time, will continue to grow.
This summer we are sending multiple teams to Haiti and Vietnam to provide medical and educaitonal help. If you are interested in more information, visit our Area 10 Global site.
