Exciting Changes Coming to Our Outdoor Space!
Dear Neighbors and Friends,
If you've passed by our church recently, you may have noticed that our outdoor space is currently closed. We want to let you know why—and share some exciting news.
We are in the process of renovating and transforming our outdoor area into a space that’s not only beautiful, but also designed to better serve our community. While this means the space will be temporarily off-limits, it also means that something wonderful is on the way.
As part of this effort, our faith community came together and raised over $100,000 to help create a public space that the entire neighborhood can enjoy. We believe this space should be more than just part of our church—it should be a place where everyone feels welcome. A place for rest, connection, conversation, and joy. Whether you’re walking your dog, meeting a friend, or looking for a quiet moment, our hope is that this space will soon become a favorite spot in the neighborhood.
Thank you for your patience as we work to bring this vision to life. We can’t wait to welcome you back soon—to a space that’s not just new, but better than ever.
Warmly,
Area 10 Faith Community
New asphalt, tables, and planters will create a park-like space in the center of Carytown.
Frequently asked questions:
Q: Why are YOU doing this?
A: When we renovated our church building in 2018, we focused on the inside, but we didn’t do much to improve the outdoor space. Our current setup isn’t as functional or inviting as it could be. This renovation will allow us to clean up and enhance the space the public sees first, making it more attractive and usable for community events.
Q: Why now?
A: We’ve been in this space for seven years, and we believe we’ve only scratched the surface of how our property can help us connect with the community. We feel like God is calling us to build bridges and create space where people from different walks of life can have conversations and hopefully find some common ground.
Q: How long will this take?
A: Our goal is to begin construction by the end of May and complete the project in June. Of course, city permits and construction delays may change this timeline, but we’re hoping to have it open and available to the public as soon as possible.
Q: What exactly will the money cover?
A: The majority of the funds we raised will go toward removing old asphalt and pouring new concrete. Additionally, we will enhance the back patio with permanent fire pits, seating, and shade structures. The front park area will receive more seating, trees, and shaded areas to make it more inviting. We are also setting aside $10,000 to support the Byrd Theatre’s seat renovation as a way to give back to a space that serves us every Sunday.
Q: How can I be involved?
A: There are several ways you can participate:
Give: You can contribute financially through our website at area10church.com/commonground or you can give with check or cash. Any additional finances that come in will help cover continued improvements to the space and upkeep over time.
Serve: We will need volunteers to help with planting flowers, assembling furniture, and completing other hands-on tasks to bring this space to life.
Pray: Ask God to bless this project, provide the resources, and use this space to reach more people with His love.
This is an exciting moment for our church, and we’re grateful to be on this journey with you. Let’s step out in faith together and create a space where our neighbors can find community, connection, and Christ.
Thank you for being a part of what God is doing through Area 10!
Expanded seating will give more of our neighbors a space to rest and connect.
Blueprints & Renderings:
Right now, we just have the blueprints from the architects we have been working with, but full renderings are coming soon:
The asphalt will be removed and replaced by concrete The expansion of the parklet area in front of the blue building removes four parking spaces but creates a much larger seating area for our community to use throughout the week. Three parking spaces will remain on the far end of the blue building (next to Sen Organic Market). Vehicle access will remain open to the courtyard.
The courtyard area will be expanded to include a large table for community meals, permanent benches with built in storage, permanent fire pit structures, and much more greenery.
Work Days/Building Projects
We will be coordinating several work days to build furniture, install new garden areas, hang lights, and much more in the new space. Check back here for additional information and sign up forms once we have the details nailed down.
