Chris Barras grew up just north of Tampa, Florida, and attended Cincinnati Christian University. After several years in ministry, Chris and his wife Abby moved to Richmond in January 2006. Chris began working full time at Starbucks and part time with a church plant in Short Pump. In March 2008, Chris left those jobs to launch Area 10 Faith Community. Today -- when he's not working for the church -- Chris enjoys NFL football, golf, soccer, music, reading, and playing with his family.
Chris”topher” grew up in the jungles of Southern California where his love of tacos, Disney, and pop culture gave him all the information he needed to succeed. Topher gave his life to Christ and a year later was attending Ozark Christian College in Joplin, MO. He moved to New Orleans to work as an associate pastor and outreach director where he met his wife Leanne. Over the years, Topher and Leanne’s journey took them to Southern CA, New Orleans, Nashville. and finally to RVA. Topher enjoys spending time with his wife and daughter, Isabella, hiking, movies, maple syrup, cooking, maple candy, comics, reading, slurpees, maple cookies, and history.
Rachel Woolard, Director of Communications & Operations
Rachel grew up in Cary, NC and received a degree in Media Communications from Johnson University in Knoxville, TN. After graduating, she was the Media Arts intern at Area 10 for a year and fell in love with the church and Richmond and decided to stay and worked as the Director of Media for Waypoint Church Partners for over seven years. She married Zach in 2013 and moved to Lynchburg to get a second degree in Graphic Design from Liberty University. Now, she is so excited to be back in RVA and serve on staff at Area 10.
TJ grew up in Hooksett, NH until his family moved to Ocala, FL before beginning high school. It was during that time that he met his wife Alle, gave his life to Christ, and then joined the Marines after graduating. During his 8 1/2 years in the Marines, TJ worked as an Aviation Life Support Technician in Cherry Point, NC but was eventually sent to Pensacola, FL to be an instructor for his job. After feeling God calling him into full-ministry, he decided to get out and attend Christian education at Johnson University in TN, where he just graduated this May of 2019. He is now beyond excited to have joined the A10 staff, where he will lead the student ministry as well as work with our local and global outreach partners.
Aly Birkl, A10 Kids Director
Aly grew up in Suffolk, VA and attended VCU after graduating from high school. She met her husband, Chris, while working at Cartwheels & Coffee and they relocated to Lynchburg, VA where Aly finished her Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education at Liberty University. She is currently working towards her Master of Arts in Teaching from Liberty. She grew up in a ministry family and worked in children's ministry in Danville, VA and in Lynchburg. She loves to spend time with Chris and their children Charlie and Izzy, read, and travel to anywhere with a warm beach!
Dave Allam, Worship Director
Dave has been roaming the streets of Richmond since he was five years old and loves the city. As a multi-instrumentalist, he has played around town in various venues and many churches. Dave loves teaching anything he knows, which mostly revolves around music and sound engineering. He and his wife graduated from VCU with music degrees and currently live in Northside with their three kids. If you need his attention, offer ice cream or start a conversation about cars, BMX riding, or anything with a groove or a beat.
Leah is a current student at Johnson University TN, majoring in Strategic Communications. She is originally from Altoona, PA, and grew up there with a love for writing. This summer, she hopes to invest in the Area 10 community and get to know its members personally. She'll be working alongside Rachel, learning graphic design and promoting Area 10 through advertising and social media. Leah loves coffee (catch her at Cartwheels and Coffee making lattes), hiking, kayaking, cheeseburgers, and breakfast food. She's so excited to spend the summer here in Richmond!
